Chapter 7

A Chapter 7 Bankruptcy is what most people think of when they hear "bankruptcy." A successful Chapter 7 bankruptcy results in a complete discharge of credit card, medical, and other burdensome debts. To file the petition, the debtors must list their income, debts, and assets, complete two online credit counseling sessions, and attend a meeting with the bankruptcy Trustee at the local courthouse. Someone with significant assets may be required to sell those during the bankruptcy. However, we focus on utilizing the Bankruptcy Code to protect our clients’ possessions. The entire process takes about 3 to 6 months. While there are various limitations on who can file for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, we focus on working with our clients to to help them become eligible if they desire to pursue this route.
